Meet the Therapists

Therapist in Warminster, Wiltshire. Clinical Psychologist offering CBT and other therapy in Warminster, Wiltshire
Dr Liam Williams
Clinical Psychologist
My Experience
I have worked in the field of mental health for over 15 years.  During this time I have supported people experiencing a range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, OCD, and have developed a specialist interest in working with people who have experienced trauma (such as PTSD) and those living with a long term physical health condition (such as chronic pain, diabetes and cancer).  Within my role in the NHS I currently work with individuals experiencing complex mental health difficulties.

My training has provided me with the skills to work from a range of different treatment approaches, including CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mindfulness, solution focused therapy and compassion focused therapy.  When working with an individual I can draw upon aspects of these models in order to tailor the therapy to best meet their needs.

Values
I place great value in empowering people to make meaningful and life enriching changes.  To do this it is essential to build a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship.  I firmly believe that by the time someone comes to therapy they have tried their best, drawing on their available resources, to overcome their difficulties.  However, when life throws something unexpected at us the thing that has worked in the past may not be enough, leaving us feeling stuck.  I see my role as working with you to find what works.

My Experience
I am a Clinical Psychologist with Chartered status. I have worked in NHS mental health services since 2008 in various settings. My training allows me to work with a wide range of individuals with a variety of mental health difficulties. I use an integrative approach, drawing on a range of evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness. I aim to build a shared understanding with an individual to formulate difficulties and to inform the therapeutic approach.

Values
I am passionate about working collaboratively with individuals to develop an understanding of why their difficulties may have arisen, factors which may contribute to maintaining these, and to develop ways to cope with these. I like to focus on individual strengths and values to help build a fulfilled life with less distress and more confidence to cope with challenges.

I provide a safe, non-judgemental and compassionate place for individuals to explore their distress and to share their thoughts and emotions. I believe that this, together with values of acceptance, honesty and openness, are important to the process of developing an effective therapeutic relationship.
